Poser Wk 2
Poser = trying to be something we are not
What are we pretending to be?
1 Friend
- How many times do we talk behind our “friends” back?
- Do we forgive our “friends” like we should
- Do we encourage our friends to do what is right?
- Are we there for our friends when they are hurting or need us?
- How often do you ‘lie” to your friends?
To often we are “posing” as a friend! We don’t really treat them like a real friend would! If we are honest about ourselves its more about what they can do for us, than what we can do for them!
Are you a true friend? Or are you a poser? I bet a lot of you would say that you have friends that are “Posing” to be your friend right now!
2. “Cool”
We want so bad to fit in the “COOL” crowd! What we think cool is! We sometimes trade in our values and character to fit it!
We will do things that we would never do unless we wanted to fit in!
Illustration: me walking in Wal mart trying to look like a football player
We will say things we would never say unless we wanted to fit in!
Illustration: me working out
We will change who we are to fit the mold of someone who we “think” they are cool!
3. Christian
We try to pose like we “love” Jesus!
A. We will post scriptures on our face book status, but still cant obey our
parents!
B. We will lift our hands in worship but still sleep around with our boyfriend or girlfriend
C. We will serve but gossip and judge others, or let filthy talk come from our mouths
D. We will say that we “LOVE” God, but our actions don’t show it!
Psalms 86:11
Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Undivided – Pose
How do we do this?
Big Idea: when we get past the pose, we become who God created us to be
1. Wake up
Luke 15:17
When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's
hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!
We have to wake up and know that we are posing! We have to come to our senses!
Some need to wake up and know that we are “not a good friend, or Christian”
2. Ask for forgiveness
Psalms 51:2
Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.
We need to ask God to forgive us, but also ask our friends and
others as well
3. Change
Eph 4:22-24
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old
self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the
attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God.
true righteousness and holiness
Once we have asked for forgiveness we have got to change! Change our
actions, who we hang with, etc
