Poser wk 2

Poser Wk 2

Poser = trying to be something we are not

What are we pretending to be?

1 Friend

- How many times do we talk behind our “friends” back?

- Do we forgive our “friends” like we should

- Do we encourage our friends to do what is right?

- Are we there for our friends when they are hurting or need us?

- How often do you ‘lie” to your friends?

To often we are “posing” as a friend! We don’t really treat them like a real friend would! If we are honest about ourselves its more about what they can do for us, than what we can do for them!

Are you a true friend? Or are you a poser? I bet a lot of you would say that you have friends that are “Posing” to be your friend right now!

2. “Cool”

We want so bad to fit in the “COOL” crowd! What we think cool is! We sometimes trade in our values and character to fit it!

We will do things that we would never do unless we wanted to fit in!

Illustration: me walking in Wal mart trying to look like a football player

We will say things we would never say unless we wanted to fit in!

Illustration: me working out

We will change who we are to fit the mold of someone who we “think” they are cool!

3. Christian

We try to pose like we “love” Jesus!

A. We will post scriptures on our face book status, but still cant obey our

parents!

B. We will lift our hands in worship but still sleep around with our boyfriend or girlfriend

C. We will serve but gossip and judge others, or let filthy talk come from our mouths

D. We will say that we “LOVE” God, but our actions don’t show it!

Psalms 86:11

Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

Undivided – Pose

How do we do this?

Big Idea: when we get past the pose, we become who God created us to be

1. Wake up

Luke 15:17

When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's

hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

We have to wake up and know that we are posing! We have to come to our senses!

Some need to wake up and know that we are “not a good friend, or Christian”

2. Ask for forgiveness

Psalms 51:2

Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.

We need to ask God to forgive us, but also ask our friends and

others as well

3. Change

Eph 4:22-24

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old

self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the

attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God.

true righteousness and holiness

Once we have asked for forgiveness we have got to change! Change our

actions, who we hang with, etc

DSM Prayer week 2

Great service tonight! We talked about prayer again!!

James 5:16
The prayers of a righteous man is POWERFUL and EFFECTIVE!

Remember guys! When we pray for God to show up, things change!

Another sermon wont do it, another human video or skit wont do it, another Christian club or devotion meeting wont do it, ONLY God can! Lets quit talking about how GOOD and Powerful our God is lets start praying for God to show US how GOOD and POWERFUL He is. Lets quit telling people how much God loves them, lets start praying that God will reveal His love towards them!

What do you see that God needs to do in your school? What do you see that God needs to do in your friends? What do you see that God needs to do in your family!

It starts with us!! We need to pray!!

Prayer week 1 sermon notes!

4 reasons people don’t pray

1. Not sure how to pray

2. Bored or distracted

3. Request too small for God

4. Prayers dont make a difference (didn’t work last time )

What is prayer? Communicating with God! Simple but hard to believe!

Ps 5:1-3

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. Listen to my cry for help, my

King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in

the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

Here David is showing his intimate relationship with God! He was CONNECTING with Him!

Prayer is connecting to God! Its all about how to connect to God! Its not jut kneeling down…

You could:

1. Write

2. Sing

3. Pray during your day

4. Hurting (cry)

5. (having a great day) excited

Break out of our pre conceived ideas!

Big Idea: Prayer is COMMUNICATING with God

4 ways to communicate with God

1. Gut level honesty

Matthew 6:5-7

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Don’t put on a SHOW for God in prayer! Don’t talk to God differently than anybody else! Be authentic with God!

Be reverent and worshipful! You can say.. I don’t get it!

Jesus criticized 2 things about peoples prayer!

A. Praying for show

B. In authentic (meaningless, just babbling)

Don’t be more concerned about what people would think than God! Your prayer doesn’t have to be unnecessarily long or fancy! Talk to God with gut level honesty!

2. Talk to God about EVERYTHING that matters to you

1 Peter 5:7
cast your cares upon Him because he cares for you!

If its important to you! Its important to God!

Solomon asked god for wisdom..

Moses and Sampson asked for water

Zacharias. asked for a son

Daniel had a dream asked God to reveal

David prayed for forgiveness

Elijah prayed for the rain to stop.. 3 yrs later prayed to “MAKE IT RAIN”

Paul prayed for the thorn in his side! His problem

What matters to you? Problems with friends, need help on a test? (u need to study too), mom and dad fighting?

3. Talk to God continually

1 thess. 5:16-18

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this

is God's will for you in Christ Jesus

pray often and through out the day! Don’t pray for more than 20 min, Never

go 20 minutes straight without praying! – Smith Wigglesworth!

P- pray

U until

S-something

H-happens

Push in Prayer! Pray till God changes the circumstances or God changes me!

4. Listen for His response

Psalms 5:3

In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests

before you and wait in expectation.

God wants to hear us, but he also wants us to HEAR Him!

He can speak through a loud voice… Or a still small voice, Through His word

Through people Through circumstances, Through Holy spirit!

"To Save A Life" Week 2 sermon notes.

We need to become AWARE!!!There are people hurting all around us! There are people who dont know Jesus and are dying and going to hell! We need to reach out to the lost! Lets stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about others!

How do we become AWARE?

1. A- Awakened

Eph. 5:14

This is why it is said: "Wake up, sleeper!
Rise from death, and Christ will shine on you."

We have to be AWAKENED to the people around us that don’t know Jesus! The ones that are hurting! I believe we have “Sleeping Giants” in our churches! There are teenagers dying and going to hell and we are stuck in our own little world!

2. w-Willing

Is. 6:8

Then I heard a voice from the Lord that saying, who will I send,

who will go for us? So I said, here I am send me!

We have to be willing to go! Willing means We to be prepared to do something! Eager and Ready! When God speaks we need to be ready and not give excuses!

3. A- Action

Matthew 28:19

So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

Once we are willing, we have to go!! We cant sit in our chairs and do nothing!! We just cant leave it up to the uth pastor to do it all!! We have to GO!!

4. R- Risk

1 Kings 18:36

At the time for the evening sacrifice, the prophet Elijah went near the altar. "Lord, you are the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel," he prayed. "Prove that you are the God of Israel and that I am your servant. Show these people that you commanded me to do all these things

Elijah took a risk!! He did different things! W put wood on the altar and ask God to make fire from wood that was drenched in water! He took a risk! Reaching out is risking your popularity, your friends, people will make fun of you! BUT one changed life is worth it!

5. E- Echo

1 Corinthians 11:1

Follow me as I follow Christ!

Our lives must echo (model) Christ life!

"Not Afraid" sermon notes

2 timothy 1:7
God has not given us the spirit of fear, but power love and a sound mind!

Big Idea: Dont be afraid! Greater is He that is IN you!!

When we go back to school we NEED to not be afraid and take a stand!
Take a stand:
1. God
2. Convictions (gossip)
3. Peer Pressure
4. Abstinence
5. Temptations
- drugs
- drinking

How do we get rid of fear and take a stand?

1. Seek it
Luke 7:9
Seek and you will find
We have to look for it! Its found first through a relationship with Christ, second through His word! Through these we can find boldness, strength, and encouragement!

2. Ask for it
Matt.7:7
Ask and it will be given to you!

Once we seek it, we have to ask Him for it! He knows our needs, but He wont force Himself on you

3. Believe it
Mark 11:23
And if you have no doubt in your mind and believe that what you say will happen, God will do it for you!

We have to believe that He will do what He says He can do! Most of the time we stop at asking! We doubt if He can really give us strength, boldness, and encouragement! So believe!

4. Quote it
Hebrews 4:12
Gods word is living and active! Sharper than any two edged sword!

We have to learn that once we seek it, ask for it, then believe it, we have to keep quoting it! Once we find a scripture then we say it OVER AND OVER until we can understand it and it makes a difference

5. Link it
Proverbs 27:17
iron sharpens iron

Find people that believe the same way we do and link up with them!! Connect with them so we dont fail!

"Bringing Sexy Back Week 2 sermon notes"

People in your life are meant to share it not be it!

Big Idea: Never become pre occupied with who you are with that you forget who you are!

3 words to remember when you are dating!
“IT WONT LAST”

90% of the time you wont marry the person you are dating in high school! It has happened, but it is a rare occasion.

Don’t get emotionally tied into it (watch your words)
Don’t get physically tied into it! (don’t get caught up in kissing etc)

The more you get tied into it, the more hurt comes out at the end!
EXAMPLE: you said you would never hurt me, I gave you my virginity and you’re breaking up with me…

How to have a Christian relationship!
1. PRIORITIZE
Matthew 6:33
Seek first God's kingdom and what God wants.
Then all your other needs will be met as well

Illustration: Triangle

2. Set boundaries
Lord, I am overflowing with your blessing, just as you promised. Now teach
me good judgment as well as knowledge. For your laws are my guide.
Psalms 119: 65-66 TLB

Determine now what will be accepted and not accepted!
Whether or not you will be alone, time you talk on the phone, time you spend with each other

Illustration: River and its banks!

3. Plan
Proverbs 18:9
He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer

When going out on a date, make a PLAN!! Idle mind is a devils workshop

4. Accountability
Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another
Have someone who can hold you accountable with you dating life

5. Parents must approve
Eph 6:2
Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a
promise)

IN my opinion God cant bless a relationship based out of disobedience!

"Bringing Sexy Back Week 1 sermon notes"

"Bringing Sexy Back as an individual"

Big Idea: Be Somebody worth dating!

Don’t try to fix up the outside when the inside needs to be fixed! You can have the looks, arms, abs, the body but if you are a jerk, and you don’t know Christ its all over with!

The ones who are “SEXY” on the outside but ugly on the inside will be the ones you spend the night with, but not the rest of your life with!

Being attractive on the outside but ugly on the inside will lead to a lonely life.

Big Idea: Be somebody worth dating!

Be somebody that they can bring home to mom and dad, and not hide you behind their backs!

Someone who has their priorities in order.

Matthew 6:33

Puts God first! REALLY does (not just talk, but actions to back up the talk)

To be the best person worth dating, have a REAL relationship with Jesus Christ!

Someone who is Honest

2 Corinthians 8:21

We are trying hard to do what the Lord accepts as right and also what people think is right.

They don’t want to be lied to! Be honest is all things! Once trust is broken its hard to get back

Someone who is Kind

Col 3:12-13

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Nobody wants to date a complete jerk! Not just kind to get what they want!

Be nice to people!

Someone who is humble

Proverbs 22:4

Respecting the Lord and not being proud will bring you wealth, honor, and life.

Don’t be so full of yourself you cant appreciate the person you are with. Also don’t think that you are perfect!

Someone who can encourage

Proverbs 12:25

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.

Don’t be the one who always puts people down with your words.
